5 Ways To Extend The Life Of Your Hand Dryers
We want to make sure you get the full life cycle out of your hand dryer and keep it working as it should do. We have put together a guide of how you can make sure your hand dryer runs smoothly, keeps hygienic and operates at optimal performance for years to come.
Please note the actual guides and videos may not be exact to your model, but they will give you an indication of what to look for and do. Please view our hand dryers on our website to seek further information relevant to your particular hand dryer. (Remember we always recommend a qualified electrician or equivalent does the technical parts of the below)
When: As required – it will depend upon the usage of the washroom and the nature of the facility the washrooms are located in e.g. a factory may need more attention than an office.
Why: If a hand dryer builds up with dirt and dust it can damage the motor as well as make the unit and the surrounding areas unhygienic.
What with: A soft cloth and nonabrasive cleaner. A mild soap or detergent and warm water will suffice. The following are not recommended:
- Alcohol-acid mixes
- Alcohol Solvent /oil-based
- Quaternary ammonium
- Alkali-bleach mixes
- Foaming ingredients
- Bleach or abrasive cleaners
How: Wipe all sides of the unit including the air outlets. DO NOT spray water or cleaning solvents through dryer vents. After using a neutral detergent, be sure to wipe it using a wet towel as it may damage the cover of the hand dryer. Clean the walls around the unit and use a mop to wipe the floor underneath and surrounding areas. Make sure the infrared sensors are wiped so that detection of the hands remains optimal.

2. Checking and replacing the brushes (if applicable)
When: We recommend you check the condition of the brushes every 6 months as part of your regular facility service checks to keep an eye on them. However the brushes may not need replacing for a very long time (years) as it will depend on the type of dryer and the amount of daily use it receives.
Why: If the brushes wear down, especially in high traffic areas, the drying performance decrease. Build-up of dust and lint inside the unit will have an effect on the motor and other working components, possibly damaging them.
What with: Allen key / screw driver, soft cloth, soft brush and new carbon brushes (if required)
How: Below you will see a comprehensive step by step guide of how to check and change the brushes for our Turboforce hand dryer. You will also see where it recommends checking for dust particles to keep the motor working correctly.

3. Checking and replacing the HEPA filter (if applicable)
When: Every 6 months
Why: The HEPA filter will block germs and dust, however this will build up on the filter rendering it useless and may even damage the hand dryer as it blocks the air flow.
What with: vaccum cleaner
How: Vaccum the excess dirt and dust from the HEPA filter.
Example of changing the HEPA filter
4. Empty the water tank (if applicable)
When: every month (dependent upon traffic of the wash room)
Why: The hand dryer may not work if the water tank is full. It may also lead to leaks and cause wet floors. Stagnant water is unhygienic and is another reason why this tank should be emptied regularly. It would also be a good idea to clean the tank with warm water and soap.
How: Consult your hand dryer manual or find your model on our website where you can download a manual.
5. Replacing the circuit board
You may need to change the circuit board if a fault occurs. Common faults include intermittent, haphazard and continuous working when the circuit board needs replacing.
Below are a couple of examples of how this is done.
Making sure you follow the above will help keep your hand dryer in top condition!
