Hand dryers with drip trays – what’s available?

There are times when a drip tray is a vital piece of kit for a hand dryer.  Wet floors can cause health and safety issues with the potential of slips and falls. It is also unhygienic to have stagnant water on floors and walls.  Therefore, in some locations it means that the domestic teams need to constantly mop up any residual water they find in the washroom area.  This creates a time issue of having to constantly check the washroom area.

Ways to combat this include purchasing recess kits for hands under type hand dryers, which allow for water collection.  There are also recessed hand dryers that collect water automatically, however these need some specialist prep work to install them.  You can also place Perspex or metal splash plates on the wall, under the hand dryer, which protects walls but still leaves water on the floor. Disabled users and children can also find that a hand dryer can cause splash back onto themselves, for example wheelchair users and the young that have to hold their hands up to reach the airflow.

So, what is available that come ready made with drip trays, or what can be added retrospectively, to free up time and reduce mess? This post highlights some great options available.

Servicing requirements

In low to medium use areas the amount of water collected in a drip tray will evaporate away, without the constant need to empty it.  In high traffic areas, maintenance is still infrequent and just requires pouring excess water away down a sink.  However, making sure of regular cleaning of the collection areas is important.  This will also stop built up water providing unpleasant smells as well as stopping the potential for overflowing drip trays that release water on to the floor. Brushes are provided with some models and it is advised to pour as small amount of water down the drain hole on a regular basis to stop clogging.  It is also advisable to clean the drip trays on a regular basis to avoid bacteria growth.

The options available

Retro fit drip tray

These are used as an additional purchase to a Dyson Airblade AB14 which do not come with a drip tray option or the Dyson V HU02 as a water collection for the hands under type variety.  However, they can be adapted to be used with most hands under hand dryers including the Warner Howard Airforce or certain models in the Dryflow range.  These are made from impact resistant ABS Polycarbonate.  This has Silver-Ion impregnation to reduce bacteria growth on the tray surface.  The tray is easily emptied by click-in click-out mechanism
